Shae's Musical Background

Shae Weir (they/them) is a 30-year-old musician. As a young person, alongside the musicality of their close and extended family members, Shae attended school guitar lessons and private piano lessons which formed a strong starting point for their formal music education.
_
At the age of 14, Shae joined St Mary's Episcopal Cathedral Choir, Glasgow, and is still a member today. Singing in a choir taught invaluable music skills such as sight-reading, basic vocal technique, harmonic understanding, and much more. Importantly, it instilled a love for choral music and singing which has shaped their career path in recent years.
_
While focusing on singing and piano in school, Shae was also interested in learning as many instruments as possible and achieved proficiency in ukulele, drum kit, and various other percussion instruments through self-tuition.
_
In-between school and college, Shae started teaching beginner piano and guitar privately at the age of 18.
_
Shae studied HND Music at Glasgow Clyde College, studying voice under the tutelage of Alison Barton, graduating in 2015. While at college, they became proficient on bass guitar while playing in several styles in bands with different class members, performing several times a year.
_
Shae then completed the Bachelor of Education with Music Undergraduate Degree from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating virtually in 2020. This degree was a combined and intensive school teaching and music course where the students completed teaching placements in various secondary schools, teaching all levels of BGE and SQA music education. Shae was a principal study singer under the tutelage of Christina Dunwoodie at their time at the RCS.
_
Shae continues to work as a private music tutor, a musicianship tutor at the National Youth Choir of Scotland, a freelance musician, and a community musician.
